New Carpet Smell

We are moving into a rental. New carpeting has been installed. (Martha Stewart from Home Depot). It's been a month since installation and the smell is quite strong. I have tried using baking soda and vacuuming it up. Still strong. Any other suggestions? (I ventilate as much as possible but it's FREEZING outside)
Thanks.

  • It is off-gassing the chemicals that were involved in the making and the safe-transport of it (some of the stuff is anti-fungal and pesticides) --there is nothing you can do to neutralize it, it will wear off as it goes away.

  • Try spraying it with febreeze. That will help.

  • You could try cleaning it with white vinegar (test a small area first!), but in all honestly, you'll probably just have to wait until all those toxic chemicals finish out-gassing. :-(
