  • bumping a question can put it on the recently bumped and/or the most bumped list. Recently bumped questions also show at the bottom of each page and the fifth question in any section. All so that more people will see it. Both the bumper and the bumpee earn points for the bump and there are awards for bumping so many questions and for getting so bumps on an answer.

  • It means you don't have an answer so you bump it to the top of the pile.

  • Moves the post up so others can see it and it doesn't get lost in the shuffle of lots of other posts. The like and dislike thumbs are self explanatory (just if you like it or not) it doesn't do anything to the actual post.

  • In groups, it bumps it up to the top, here in answers, it just means you support the question
