how many years can u go without filing your taxes?

  • You could be making a big mistake that will haunt you in years to come. Are you sure you owe taxes? I knew someone who didn't file for several years, thinking that they owed. Come to find out, they would have gotten a refund, but because they didn't file, they then received penalties and ended up owing a lot. You can go to a tax preparer and find out.

  • As long as you don't owe anything 3 years. If you don't have any income then you don't have to file at all.

  • You need to file every year even if your income was $0. This can be either singly or filing jointly with your spouse.
