  • My son is 3 and I am being told he should already be able to dress himself and he doesn't at all - I try to not do it for him but he gets SO easily frustrated and just does not want to try.. I have never met a child who was so active in every other area and completely lazy in this area... he would still let me feed him if I would lol!~

  • Quite young, we bought a wonderful large-pieced puzzle which you had to put together to work out what to put on first and with our first we gave it to her at about 2, although she wasn't responsible for fully dressing herself for many years after that.

  • dancingsleepninjabunch of roseshugs  I think around 2 or 2 1/2 was the time of getting themselves dressed.  Sometimes, I had to send them back to their rooms to try on another outfit so their clothes would match.

  • Around 2-2 1/2. I really don't remember with my older kids. I know my 8yo had fine motor issues so doing things like putting on socks and fastening things was really difficult for her. I'd make her try then help her. She didn't figure out how to get her own socks and shoes on until she was almost 5 and finally learned to do up buttons and zippers when she was 7.
My 4yo has been fully dressing herself since a little after 2. She had learned to put her shoes on at 1. By 3 she could put on all her clothes, socks, shoes, tights, jackets, hats, mittens, boots, etc. She even learned how to do buttons. The only thing she still can't do is zip up her coat without someone starting it for her. She's working on it, though.

  • DS started trying to dress himself around 2, I think, but now, at 4, he still needs help most days.

  • Mine have been able to take off their clothes since 18 months or so, but still aren't able to fully dress themselves at 4 1/2. They can put their pants on if they are sweats, but I have to button or snap their jeans. They can do t-shirts, undershirts and undies, but need help with zippers, buttons and most of the time, socks.
