  • 16, I had a job at 14, right when I turned 14 and I would say I was too young. When your child works you also give them responsibility and freedom all at once, so I would say a 16yr old can handle that responsibly.

  • I had my first job at 13 working a concession stand at the flea market on the weekends, I had to work to pay for the bill on the pager I wanted for my birthday. There are always odd jobs kids can do but nowadays they wanna shut down lemonade stands of 5 year olds because they don't have a permit SMDH!

  • If my son wants to work as a teenager, he can when turns 16. I have worked since I was 17. I want my son to focus on school though.

  • I think 16 is a good age. IF they can find a job. When I grew up every application I put in I got the job. Now I'm not sure if it works like that any more. Even for minimum wage jobs.

But 10 hours a week after school or on weekends would be great. And 30 to 40 hours a week during the Summer wouldn't be too bad either. Make sure you show your child how to handle the money too. Like if they need to save some for college or a car, etc. It's good for kids to learn work ethic, but they also need to learn how to manage the money,

  • Whenever they're ready, but probably no later than 16. I had my first job at 14 working at a pizza place (answering phones, taking orders, making food waiting tables). If they're grades aren't that great, then you should limit the hours they work during the week and make sure grades don't decline. If they're also doing other things (sports, extracurricular) then probably only a job during summer.
