How many naps a day should my 9 month old take a day?

He sleeps about 8-10 hours a night and then he usually takes 3 short naps a day. His shorts naps can last as short as 15 minutes to a 1.5 hour. Should I try to start making him only taking two naps a day?

  • There's no reason to, a child's routine, unless inconvenient for you or them can be whatever you want to make it. Providing they and you are happy with it.

  • We aren't always at home to take the second or third nap and then he will try to go to bed a 6 and then wake up at 4 in the morning. I'm trying to avoid that.

  • The way I have always done is let them sleep when they want. He could be going threw a growing sprit. Or just playing really hard. I have four kids and my youngest is 2 and she still takes two naps and sleeps 10 to 12 hr nights

  • what time is his bed time? Sometimes my son would take naps as late as 6 and I would just wake him up after an hour and then put him down for the night later (around 9-10)

I would allow him to take his 3 naps a day until he no longer wants to.

  • My daughter is 10 months old, and she takes between 1 and 3 naps a day. If I put her down for a late nap, I don't let her sleep later than 5:30 because her latest bedtime is 7:30.

  • He goes to bed anywhere from 730-900 but tonight he's been asleep since 530. He woke up for 5 minutes and then went back to sleep in my arms.

  • You will miss all those naps when they stop taking them. Do try to keep him on somewhat of a schedule though, it will make things a lot easier when the time comes.
