In order to have shared custody must you first have child support?

Im just curious how this works in case for the future

  • no. i don't think so. but most likely if he pays he will get visitations. child support and visitations are different. i have no idea about custody though. i think if you don't go for support he can still ask for visitations but not sure about custody. i wonder if it varies by state. i would call a family lawyer for a free consultation and ask that exact question or even domestic relations. they might know.

  • No, the only time that child support is forced is when the primary parent applies for welfare, then the other parent is assigned child support to help pay back the state.
