  • * Play it up! "You're gonna be a big brother." Be all excited for him.
    * Get him a doll of his own and teach him how to be gentle with it.
    * Maybe let him help with baby stuff. "Do you think your brother would prefer teddies or trucks?"
    * Look for books that address the coming of a new baby and read them to him. (Only one I can think of offhand is the Berenstein Bears "The New Baby" book or something, but I'm sure the librarian can help you.)

  • Have a present for him from his new brother when he comes to the hospital, because there will be so many new things broght for hte baby and you don't want him to feel left out. Also, make sure that people ask him about his new baby, about being a new big brother, and just about him. If he gets to answer questions about the baby he more likely to be proud rather than jelous. Congratulations and good luck!

  • Make him your helper from the start when baby comes home. Also make sure he gets plenty of individual time and attention with you and your SO often. Some of the best advice I got when our second son was born was to make it about the older child for awhile so they know they are still loved and not being replaced. GL!!
