do you have any good fund raising ideas?for teams

here is the thing both of my daughters are cheerleaders well there team recently made it to nationals in Las Vegas well tonight the parents has a meeting to discuss the price and we were all told that the price of each girl is $130.00 that includes:hotel room stay, food&restaurant money, gas money for the limo ride up there,®istration fees then there's a extra $300.00 because there getting the cheerleaders Letterman jackets made, ooh plus there planning on taking the girls cite seeing and to the amusement park so that's 30 extra dollars
well we all know that's alot of money especially for two kids
so today at the meeting a lady on the team had explained to the coach that her husband is incarcerated and she has 2 daughters on the team plus a 3year old son she asked the coach can her daughters sleep in the room with her and ride in the car with her so that she can save money
and well this is how it went:
coach:well NO! they cant we are all a team and everyone is staying together so that we can all arrive at the same time this isn't a pity party im sorry about your husband but if you cant afford it take your girls OUT!

Lady:well i understand and i don't want it to be a pity party i"ll do anything to make sure they can go and have as much fun as everyone else im not trying to be cheap or anything,..well are there any fundraisers i can do to raise money for there Letterman jackets because really those are too much and i should have been told this in advance

coach:NOPE no one is fund raising we all are paying out of pocket because all fund raising does is cause a big mess about stealing money and stuff and i just don't have time for all of that if you guys can find a fundraiser were we fund raise for our self's and don't have to give money to anyone we can do it as a team but if not then i guess your girls can kiss Vegas good bye

i felt so bad for her because i also have 2 daughters on that team and its after holidays you know people are broke and we have to make a living and pay bills also with that being said i wanted to know if you guys knew any unique fund raising ideas?

  • The big problem with many of the fundraisers out there is that you have a product to sell and who is going to front the money for the product. One year my dds basketball coach handed them a big box of candy bars to sell she had paid out of pocket for them and said she didn't want any candy back just 75 bucks in 2 weeks of that 75 we got a kick back of 50 towards the new uniforms which we had already paid for in advance and the truth is that we had no interest in selling candy so in the end we paid 25 more than we planed on and had a box of candy bars
However our girls now that they are older had an amazing silent auction at a football game and raised over 4,000 off of donated products we all pitched in 10 bucks to cover advertising and printing costs. We have also made good money with carwashes bake sales and our local McDonald's and coldstone locations sponser the team with a night of sales. Good luck

  • have you tryed going to the local business and asking them to donate to the team or sponsor the team trip?
carwashes are a good idea (but kinda hard in the cold) the local pizza place here has a sponsor night where a % of that nights sales goes to the team , bake sales go over well, auctions do good (you could auction of babysitting, housecleaning, errand running etc....and this is something the girls could be doing) just sit down and figure out thing to do that cost very little money and the girls can do most of the work......
