Sorry for this idiotic question, (as I probably should know), but what exactly is a kitchen witch?

As opposed to a regular witch (not the fake hollywood kind). Thanks

  • The only kitchen witch I have ever seen is a straw witch doll that is hung in the kitchen.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - A kitchen witch, sometimes called a cottage witch or a "Scandinavian" kitchen witch doll, is a homemade doll resembling a stereotypical witch displayed in residential kitchens as a means to provide good luck and ward off bad spirits.

  • You have your Hollywood witches, then you have real witches. Not all real witches are kitchen witches, though. My understanding of kitchen witches is that they aren't really focused on things like rituals and actual spells, but feel that they're cooking, cleaning, gardening, etc. are all spells, basically, and there's no need for creating spells involving other things. My brain is kind of fuzzy right now, and I'm sure someone else here can answer it better (I know there's at least one kitchen witch here). I'm going to search a few sites to see if I can find a better description.

  • This is a good place to read about it online. I've read a little in my books, but I don't have any that go into much detail (yet).

  • Wow, I had completely forgotten about the Kitchen Witch that use to hang in our kitchen. My mom is Norwegian and her entire family had these little witches hanging in the kitchens, exactly how elizabr explained it. Now if you are talking about something else, then I have no idea. lol

  • I am a kitchen witch. I do allot with herbs, adding specific herbs to meals I cook, making homemade incense and teas and cleaning products. I work with stones and totems as well.. basically I am like a pagan martha stewart (just not evil like her) I do rituals now and then but day to day I am weaving my magic through what I do in my home and kitchen.

  • Kitchen witches are PEOPLE that practice magick using (usually common) kitchen herbs and spices. Kitchen witches cook/bake with spells, and her primary place to work magick is in the kitchen.
