What is a Brazilian Blowout?

I saw it advertised at the hair salon the other day, but then forgot to ask.

  • It has nothing to do with a Brazilian bikini wax, if thats what you were thinking! lol It is a hair straightening process. It takes about two hours (depending on the length of your hair), costs about $300 (depending on where you live), you can't wash your hair for 4 days, but it lasts about 2-3 months. I did it once, before the controversy. It looked great, if a bit flat. The controversy surrounds the use of formaldehyde in the chemicals and the dangers around inhaling that. If anyone does decide to get one, make sure you get the kind with NO or SMALL amounts of formaldehyde.

  • It's been under scrutiny lately because it's causing damage to clients' hair AND because the chemicals they use are SO toxic that people are getting sick from it. Stay away!

  • I would research it before you do it. It is very damaging to the hair.

  • Didn't know it was a straightener, thanks ladies. I sure don't need that, mine is very straight already!
