Question for those who know about the rules of enlisting in the Reserves

My cousin's boyfriend told her that he's going to enlist but is going to sign a paper stating that he refuses to go to Afganistan so they won't be sending him to war.
It sounds like total BS to me. I always thought you go where they send you.
Who's right?

  • You go where they send you. He doesn't really have a say in the matter.

  • Reservists especially don't have any say - my brother is in the Reserves and there is no such thing. He enlisted in high school, knowing that he could end up overseas. He (fortunately?) has a commander who's daddy is her higher up so she's gotten off easy, and they've only been activated once, but "normal" military people are not exempt from anything. Yes, he is full of BS!
