  • Pay your bills. Then take some of the money left over for the month and put it in a savings account. Do that tell you have enough to go on vacation.

  • We have a very precise written down budget that we follow each and every month that concerns every single penny we make. We budget a certain amount every month towards potential vacations. When you hear that saying 'Pay yourself first' this is one of the ways we do it.. We put the money into an account and pretend that it doesn't exist until it's time to go on vacation.

  • Agree with slw123. We put it right in our budget and set it aside and act like we don't have that account.

  • I have an account for Christmas and one for vacation. After everything is paid, try to put a little in there each month. It will start adding up.

  • Figure out how much the vacation (be sure to include spending cash) and then decide when you want to go. so say you need $2000 in 10 months for a vacation, then you'll need to save $100 a month for it.

Our 'vacations' thus far have only been to visit family. So total we're talking about maybe two or three hundred dollars. We usually don't save for it, or even plan for it until a month or two before.
