How can one call themselves a 'small govt Conservative' when they support DOMA, the Drug War, The PA, etc?

How is inserting the govt into peoples personal lives 'small govt'?

Or are those people only small govt in relation to corporatations but for interfering with individuals?

I don't undertand how someone can reconcile insisting they are for smaller govt while supporting such intrusions into our personal lives. Can anyone explain it?

  • I'd LOVE to hear a reasonable explanation for that, myself.... But I'm not holding my breath.

  • It will be interesting to read the responses. . . if you get any that aren't personal attacks or evade the question entirely and just insult the opposing party/party leaders.

  • Great question! That's why I left the Republican party and became a Libertarian.

(Democrats have their own fair share of hypocrisy too .... "The government has no right to interfere with decisions between her and her doctor (re: abortion)," .... "dear government, please run our health care system. thank you.")

  • Can I ask who specifically, you are talking about? I mean which politician. Kind of a broad blanket statement.

  • Elish, I agree on that, both main parties are full of crap now. I'd be a Libertarian if I trusted the free market.

  • cbk, I don't have anyone in particular in mind but I see it all the time in DC, Sacramento and all over CM. People who go on and on about the horrible big govt but support policies that only grow it and give the beast more power.

  • The free market could work if we did away with Corporate personhood laws. With those enacted we lost our representation to corporate lobbyists. What we have right now in America is NOT free market capitalism, it is corporatism. Any libertarian will confirm that - we don't like what we have now.
