4 minute bottle

My 2month old son just drank a 6oz bottle in 4 mins!!

What can I do to slow him down? I already have the no drip no leak nipples and he still sucks it down like a mad man.

I'm affraid to even change the nipple flow when he's ready.

  • I wouldn't worry too much. He's was probably hungry. I would pull the bottle out of his mouth if he starts to wiggle or gives any signs of needing to burp. He's a growing boy :)

  • sounds like he was really hungey maybe fees him more at a time or in closer times or even add just a little or rice cereal i mean start with a pinch or two since he sooo little but i would first try giving him more at a time my daughter was a little piggy and downed her bottles too good luck

  • I agree with bseastrand. I would start with a little rice cereal though. Its a little easier on their little tummys. Rice cereal can be constipating so just keep on eye on that. Good luck!

  • How often does he eat? Maybe he's going through a growth-spurt and is feeling a little more hungry than normal. I wouldn't change the nipple for a while yet if he has no problem sucking it through a slow flow (if that's what it is) I would not give him any kind of cereal yet, it can cause food allergies later, and create bigger problems. Just try giving him 7 ounces next time and see if he acts the same way at the following feeding. My daughter would suck down about 2 ounces in the hospital in two or three minutes. Then they wouldn't let me feed her for 4 hours.

  • She would cry for a bottle sooner but they wouldn't bring me one unless 4 hours had gone by. Anyone else go through something similar after they had a baby?

  • as long as he is burping and not having painful gas after the bottles then he should be okay. My son ate like this...he was a big big boy from the start, just really hungry.

  • Sounds like my son. He was this way both at the boob and bottle. Now he is still a piggy even though hes on a cup and solids. He still gets a bottle sometimes and inhales it too. Some kids will just be piggies lol.

  • I would say get a bottle meant for a breastfed baby like medela or the breastflow from first years the flow is always slower but then i read you use the formula with rice flour so i don't think it would go through.
