what color should I paint my living room?

my living room furniture is maroon(couch and recliner) entertainment center is cherry. one wall is long and also goes into the dinning room. My living room is very narrow, i would like to open it up with color. I have several live plants also I have very old family photos on the wall in the ORIGINAL frame(we are talkin like 150 yrs old). Help!!

  • I would go with a light single wall accent color---the furthest wall when you enter--like a pale yellow, or pale pink...the other walls would be white.

    As for the pictures I would arrange them in a cluster collage fashion--as they are in the frames, and make them the focal point in your living room with a credenza or small chest of drawers underneath.

  • white would probably open it up a whole lot. or even an off white might make it look more warmer and probably match the furniture better than a plan white would.

  • Paint doesn't have to match everything. Go with a lilac or something pleasant and not so dark, to open up a part of your house.

  • I would say a tan color or do each wall a different color like maybe one burgundy wall and one tan or off white wall
