How much would you pay a 10 year old?

I am bringing my son, 3, to my mom's this week for 3 days because his daycare provider is on vacation - my mom watches a 16 month old my son is not good with - he gets overly jealous and although he's learning, I am asking my niece who is 10 and will be there to basically keep him busy and "babysit" him - although my mom will be there and fully watching him also, thought it would be good training for her.. how much should I pay her to do this for 3 days from 8-5?

  • She is 10 not 15. she is asking her to PLAY not changer diapers, handle meals and be the responsible party.

  • I was going to say $3 an hour... I think I would just make it $30 a day.
I think $5 a day is a joke... really... and rather insulting.
I think the toy store is ok.. but 10 yr olds are not really into toys. If your going to go that direction I would do clothing (name brand so it is special)

  • i say at least 50 a day.
I don't pay MY regular babysitter that much a day. She charges me $30 a day and she changes diapers, cooks his lunch and all that jazz.

Look, the kid is only 10 and is just there to entertain, not to do the cooking, cleaning, etc for the child. I say pay her $10 a day.

  • I meant give her a gift card at the very end when she is done being a helper. That would be a nice 'thank you' to give in addition to paying her.

  • 5 bucks a day? Any money to a kid is a great thing, and 5 is cheap for you, your paying her to play lol.

  • It is a lot to ask of her~
Make sure she knows it's her "job" only half the time she is there. Or some smaller proportion.
You can pay her whatever, but more than 10 dollars/day is a lot. Because this is perspective~ what it looks like from her point of view--
