  • The last church hubby and I attended should have changed their denomination from Word of God to Word of MONEY they talked about it so much. 9 out of 10 sermons were about how to use your (meaning the congregation) money to better the life of the church and it's missionaries.

They passed the plate at the beginning and end of the service.

  • They don't really ask. Just after the homily, during the hymn, the basket is passed and we put in our envelopes. Sometimes, when there's a funding drive, they'll make an announcement after Mass, but not much time is really spent during the Mass asking for money.

  • Ours talks about it every service, and gives the scriptures supporting it (not all of them, just a few every week). Every once in awhile they'll talk about how it applies specifically to the church. Our church pays 12% of the tithe to various ministries etc since the church is also to tithe on the tithe. At first I didn't like it but now I see the importance since so many people don't know about the importance of tithing and what the bible says about it. It probably lasts about 5 minutes.

  • Proudmomma777 ... what an interesting approach. I have never seen a church do that before.

i like that about our hall, there are some that cant afford to give and are embarrassed when the plate is passed around and they cant give. we also try not to deal w/money in the same place we pray.

  • 2 mins or so. right after communion we sing a song then pass a contribution plate...thats about all thats done for money and its not really "asked" for...just giving others the opportunity.

i like the idea of having a donation box...serves the same purpose without the show.
