If a crock pot recipe calls for 6-8 hrs, is it okay to set it for 4?

I'm making bbq pork loin in the crock pot and the recipe says to set the crock pot for 6 -8 hours. I forgot to get it started this morning and was wondering if I could just set it for 4 hours instead or will that ruin the dish?

  • If it says 6-8 hours on LOW, then yes, you can do 4 hours on HIGH. The texture may be slightly different, but it should be done.

  • It wont ruin it just cook it on low for 2 hours and on high for 2 hours. It wont be as tender and juicy but it will still work. Good Luck! Sounds yummy

  • It may not cook it correctly and you would have raw or undercooked meat. Maybe putting it on high for 4 hours would be ok, but there is a reason for directions on cooking. The food may not turn out right but should still be edible.

  • I'd cook it on low for 4 hours, then check it, you can always bump it up to high for a couple more hours.
