  • number one? A crate! For potty training and to keep him safe when you aren't able to watch him.
A good quality dog food, water and food bowls, training sized treats, heavy duty chew toys like kongs, a normal non retracting leash for training and a good collar. Pet insurance is nice for the first year to help with vax and spay/neuter but not a must have.

  • A Crate. Definately crate train your pet. It is the best thing you can do for your sanity and their comfort/safety.
    A collar.
    A leash.
If you don't have a fenced in back yard, then a 40 ft. leash, so they can be tied up and still run around.
    Training treats.
Educate yourself on the type of puppy you're getting, the best ways to train them, etc. That way you're going into this with a knowledge of what to expect, rather then being blind.
Chew toys. Like dog bones, ropes, squeeky toys, stuffingless animals.
Food Dish. A water dish with that has the ability to attach a 2lt. to, so that you're not having to refill every hour.
A pet bed for inside the crate and possibly one for outside the crate if you don't want them on your furniture.

  • Yeah I am with the crate and a good leash. At first it is hard to train a puppy to use the leash but you need to have them know what it is for safety reasons.
