Do u put your baby on their back or tummy?

I have to admit, I put my baby to sleep on her tummy.... I tried for weeks to get her to sleep on her back but she just wont sleep for more than an hour at a time that way... my family says not to worry and that they have been putting their kids on their tummies for years... what do you guys think?

  • i think it depends on the age of your child if they arnt able to roll over on their own and dont hold their head up by themselfs then i would not be putting my baby to sleep on their belly. I only started letting my son sleep on his belly when he was able to roll himself over that way.

  • I had/have the exact situation as you. DD is 6 months and she still sleeps on her belly and she has been this way since she was born.

  • If she's used to sleeping on her tummy, then she'll likely be okay. Suffocation risk is higher in babies who sleep on their backs, but then are put on their tummies. DS REFUSED to sleep on his back from day one. He's always been a tummy sleeper. So we made sure he had a firm sleep surface (we coslept, so he slept on our bed), had no blankets, pillows or stuffed animals around, and we had him in a blanket sleeper/sleep sack to keep him warm. Once they can move their head around (around 4 months), the SIDS risk drops dramatically. A lot of babies sleep better on their tummies. Just keep an eye on her. =)

  • I have put my twins on their tummys for so long now I don't even think about it anymore. They have been doing it for almost five months now and they are fine.

  • I personally put my kids on their backs. But that would also explain the bald spot on the back of my sons head. haha.

  • both my children refused to sleep on their backs. dd is now 2 1/2 and will sleep on her back but ds who is 2 months refuses unless hes sitting propped up on a pillow... he can hold his head up while on tummy and turn it back and forth already though
