Anyone else have a tradition that mandates eating cabbage on New Year day???

  • Yep. My Dad still does it and the only thing I have is sauerkraut at the moment til I get to the store Friday!

  • I meant to add we have corned beef and cabbage. My father and his wife do their own thing and he has to remind me every year to get my stuff for me and my son just after Christmas......LOL

    Corned beef and cabbage , black eyed peas and corn bread, salad for my son with his fave sweet cherry tomatoes as he is not keen on black eyed peas at all.

  • My son told me only way he will eat it is if I make egg rolls, good idea since we had cabbage raw a few days ago, only LO and me like it raw.

  • I forgot the corned beef thing too,LOL - mom has passed away so I dont get any reminders anymore and I rarely actually eat it on NY anyway but I just thought I should try this year.

  • We eat a form of cabbage--sauerkraut. Pork and sauerkraut is our tradition.

  • I guess, We always eat pork & saurkraut, but this year I can't have either... so who knows what we will have!

  • Pork and saurkraut from German, upstate New York past.
    Black eyed peas from my Virginia current home.
    Corned beef is St. Pats day.

  • Never heard of it, but I love cabbage.. Actually had corned beef and cabbage as on of the dishes on Christmas. :)
