how long to have to be with some one to say they are married

my man and i have been with each other for six years and he just got the hospital and and staying with his mom in az and is stell getting help and the docters wont talk to me they are saying we are not married so how long do you have to be with some one befor you are married with certificate

  • You're not married until you GET married. Not all states accept common law

  • Some people are together 24 hours and some people never get married. It depends on the couple and what timing is right for them, there is no set time limit.

    However, not everyone recognizes that.

  • Common law marriage differs from state to state. You are not really "married" until you have a marriage ceremony.

  • 7 years is common law in most states. NY is one that does not recognize common law marriage.

  • In Idaho, where you live, there is NO common law marriage at all. You must actually GET married. The doctors CANNOT talk to you.

  • Not every state has common law marriage and even if they do most hospitals will still not share information unless you are legally married by the state.
