Family friendly New Years Plans?

I'm looking for something fun to do with my husband and kids on New Year's Eve. Anyone have any ideas?

  • For some strange reason I can't really explain, we have a tradition of going for Chinese food, late --like 9:30pm-- and then go home and watch tv. Sometimes New Year's specials, sometimes movies we got for Christmas, sometimes just whatever's on...

We buy or make unusual sparkling drinks for the kids to celebrate with --expensive, flavoured waters (like Elderflower Presse), sparkling water punch or just a skittle in the bottom of a champagne glass filled with 7Up (it makes the bubbles the colour of the candy!) for midnight (or whenever they were about to fall over with exhaustion...)

  • Stay home, play games, make a feast and let the kids bake whatever they like, make a mess of it! Watch the ball drop on Times Square. Share a toast with your kids with sparkling cider and be thankful for another blessed year. Kids will be toast after all this. Now you and hubby have to clean up and enjoy each others company!

  • We also used to go for Chinese food, because that was the only restaurants open, others were closed for parties, or you had to pay a huge fee because it was New Year's Eve and they were going to give a Champagne toast at midnight! Home with board games or movies and snacks, and we would talk about all that happened during the year, and what we hope for the New year. One year, we all wrote down our goals for the year and what we thought would happen. Then we put them in a safe place (In with our tax file for the year) and then the following year, took them out and read them. It was great.
