  • I hate artificial perfumes, so I won't use anything highly scented, particularly not something that I can still smell after it's been dried...

I use the cheapest ultra-concentrated powder I can find, because I happen to know (have people in the industry) that the 'base' of all laundry detergent is identical --what is added (blue beads, yellow beads, Gain scent, oxyclean crystals, etc.) is added to the base, which cleans as well whether it's $6 for 130 loads or $12 for 60 loads. If I want or need an additive for a single load, I will add it to a single load --not every load on the off chance that one garment needs it.

I live in a very soft-water area, so I use 1/8c measure for each extra-large load. If it smells (sports gear, something a cat peed on) I'll add an enzyme pre-treat. I buy Amaze, but they're all the same --except SA8, the Amway one which has a high concentration of it which destroys absorbancy. And silk and wool.

  • Tide with Febreeze. My grandmother, who passed away a few years ago, used it and I used to visit her on summer vacation and sit in her garage with her while she did laundry. It makes me think of her...
