What do you make for your traditional New Years dinner?

I know not everyone does pork and sauerkraut. So what are your traditions?

  • Blackeyed peas for good luck, Collard greens for wealth, pork for moving forward in life, and cornbread, just because it goes with it. Sausage and cabbage, a German tradition for good luck.

  • I have no idea what we're having for dinner, but DH is Japanese, and in Asian cultures, the first thing you eat in the New Year has to be something long (symbolizing long life), so we usually make up some ramen, spaghetti or udon noodles at midnight.

  • We don't have an official tradition. We have been making those pigs in a blanket (hot dogs in crescent rolls) and salads. This year I'm making pulled pork.

  • I always do the cabbage and blackeyed peas and nobody ever eats it but me. So this year I am making salmon patties tonight and cooking a beef pot roast tomorrow.

  • We don't have a huge tradition for New Year's Day itself - we have more of a tradition on New Year's Eve.... we do typically have Black Eyed Peas... and tomorrow my husband has requested that I make homemade potato soup - so I guess that's the menu :)
