Third? Junior? or Both?

My dh is a junior to his father (obvi..lol) If we had a son and named him after them he would be The Third. Now if dh's father passed away (God Forbid) would our son now be a Jr or the Third? Or both? Always wondered that!

  • If you want him to be a 3rd legally, you have to put it on the birth certificate. If your hubby is the Jr., he can't be the junior, he would be the 3rd. (If your hubby's parents had wanted to, they could have done his Jr. OR the 2nd.)

  • So I would never introduce him as Ricky Jr? Just Ricky? Or Ricky the 3rd? lol

  • He would a third, no matter whether the grandfather passed or not. If you were to name him the same name as his father and not add the III, there could be lots of complications with confusion with the name.

  • It is always about the row. If he is the third in a row who gets the father's name than he is the third.
