What age do you think would be a good age for bunk beds?

We have 3 girls and when my youngest is out of a crib they will all be in one room. Its a big room so we are going to get bunk beds and then a twin bed. My oldest is 4 1/2 is that too young to be in a bunk bed?

  • My girls were 5 and 6 when they got theirs. They took turns on the top bunk. I wouldn't put a child under 5 up there, but you know your child better than anybody.

  • I think if you get the low bunk beds then they will be fine, but I certainly wouldn't get an 8ft bunk bed.

  • As long as the top bunk has a support rail to keep her from falling out it is okay. Just teach the top bunk sleeper how to properly get up and down the ladder, so that you don't have any spills. Otherwise, I think that 3+ years is perfectly fine for top bunk sleeping.

  • I was in a bunk bed (top bunk with a bar) when I was 5. Younger sibling was on the bottom (age 2)

  • My twins were 5 when we upgraded them to bunk beds but the top bunk had a side rail, it was always against the wall on the other side and we had a ladder for them to climb.
