How young can you start dance classes?

  • I think from they can stand. I've heard dancing classes for 3-year-olds.

  • depends on the ones offered in your area.....the rec center here has class for all ages starting at 1yr.....

  • around here you start actual dance at 3 but at 2 you can take a music and movement class.

  • like ballet? i saw an ad around here somewhere...this one place starts at age 2. it depends on the school i guess.

  • I know the local college here offers mommy & me dance classes from age 2-4 (the mommys don't dance, they are just their to help out and watch their child).

  • In my area it is 3 years old but they do offer mommy and me classes starting at 18 months.

  • Pre-dance and creative movement can begin as early as 2, but actual formal ballet training shouldn't begin until about age 8 or so. But the predance classes will acquaint the child with some of the movements and the vocabulary, so it's a great idea for toddlers!
