How long, is too long?

How long do you think is too long to breast feed? About what time do you cut them off, if they haven't stopped on their own?

  • I stopped when mine were two years old. They both stopped on their own. IF they didn't, I would have weaned them.

  • I nursed DD up until she was about 26 months, and I would say after about 1 1/2 or so she was down to only bedtime nursing. I stopped mainly because I think I was drying up anyway, and I was starting to be uncomfortable with it. The weaning process for us after that went quite smoothly. :)

  • IMO In public 2 only because at that point it becomes hard to cover up and the child is old enough to understand they need to wait a few min and since it is no longer necessary for the majority of the child's nutrients... In private when ever the child is ready.

  • A year and a half is long enough IMO. When they can start asking for it, it's time to stop.

  • This again, huh? It's too old when mom and/or baby no longer wish to continue.

  • My plan was to stop at a year but my dd stopped herself at 11 months.
