If Zeus and the other Olympians...

If Zeus and the Olympians were not able to ensure the survival of their own religion, then why worship such powerless deities?

If Zeus and the Olympians couldn’t protect the ancient worshipers, then how can they be trusted to protect their current worshipers now?

If Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism are flourishing, and Greek paganism found deficient and fallen, then why adopt the latter and not one of the former?

  • If Zeus and the Olympians were not able to ensure the survival of their own religion, then why worship such powerless deities? Does your religion command the belief of everyone on earth? Nor did theirs. As the greek society failed and was conquered by others, so did the beliefs of the society. It was not a quick process. The same will happen with Christianity and Judaism and Islam, etc in time.
If Zeus and the Olympians couldn’t protect the ancient worshipers, then how can they be trusted to protect their current worshipers now? Does your God protect all his worshipers from harm? It's generally the same thing. You'll claim free will or God is testing them.

  • If Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism are flourishing, and Greek paganism found deficient and fallen, then why adopt the latter and not one of the former? Just because a beleif is "popular" does not mean it holds any more or less merit than a
religion that is not as well known. All things have their time. Eventually Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc will also fall. (though Buddhism has a stronger chance of survival as it is a philosophy of life and not really a religion. It has no gods.)

What on earth are you talking about? The religion has and does survive.

  • I believe that the Greeks DO still honor the Olympian gods. I am an American, but I am fond of those gods and goddesses myself! At any rate, I agree with Kristi. The time is coming when the christian religion will suffer extinction because it will become irrelevant in a modern world. That time is coming fast!

  • They DID survive. EVEN with all the slander such as THIS post. EVEN with the crusades and trails THEY are still here. EVEN with the threats to their followers, even with the attempt to bury their ways.....they are STILL here.

  • As the greek society failed...

Interesting thought.  Why did the Greek society fail?  Solely upon it being 'conquered' by outsiders?  If so, in what way was it conquered?  Religiously or politically or something else?  Or did it fail from within, like an implosion of itself from bad politics - unworthy leaders in charge, etc?

  • Does your God protect all his worshipers from harm?

Excellent point!  The God of Abraham protects some but does not protect others.  He has allowed Christians (especially the early Christians) to be beheaded, crucified, impaled, and fed to wild animals before fascinated spectators.  But through all this, Christianity has flourished.  It seems the God of Abraham has allowed the suffering so that good may come of it.

  • See, you are NOT truely curious or posting these questions in the spirit of educating yourself. You are posting this in the manner of whose God is better than the other.

  • The Gods exist because WE exist. They are alive because we believe. The same can be said for your God. He is alive to you because YOU believe as well as any other believer. Why do you have the need to try and invalidate our path in order for yours to seem superior. What harm is our faith doing to yours?

  • What do you say to the followers of Judaism or Islam? They have differing prophets from Christianity. Do you ask them these same type of questions?
