Do you think?

Do you think using the well because I am the guy is a good excuse when you are talking to your s/o about what last name to use for the baby?

  • Are you married? If so, IMHO yes... if not, I would use your own.

  • no, for me it would depend on the commitment level and the maturity.

I made the mistake of giving my son his father's last name. And now he's gone(has been for 2 1/2 yrs) and my DH and I are going through the process of adoption(step-parent)

  • ....also, if you are planning on getting married I would use his last name.

  • I was married so this was never an issue for me.
I guess since you are not married (assuming since you said s/o and not husband) it is your choice.

  • I was not married and not together with the father. He left me for another woman. I still gave DD his name. I just think it is supposed to be that way. Thankfully I ended up marrying him several years later so all of our names are all the same.

  • Well, the baby should have the same last name as your wife and you do. If you didn't marry her, then you have no right to say anything about the baby. You should also get a vasectomy.
