Are most children at 2 have empathy for animals or people?

When my 2 yr old sees those commericals about the animals who are being hurt or starving, she starts crying, and she comes to me crying about the kittys being hurt. Are they capable of knowing the animals are hurting when they are on TV? She also one time while we were at the doc awhile back, there was a boy approx 3 or 4 pushing his little sister, twins and she went over there and actually "yelled" at the boy!! Well I couldn't really tell what she was saying, and the mom was open mouth astonished, and I wasn't really sure on what to do since she was actually defending that little girl. Is this normal for a 2 yr old? She turned 2 on Nov 5th.

  • Yes! I see it in my DD, too! Empathy is a product of evolution. Take this time now to cultivate it!
