Ashley - boy or girl name?

Spelled just like that.

I saw some guy on Fox News In DC with that name and felt bad for him. I think Ashley is all girl name

  • Originally a last name. 19th Century was more popular as a Boys name than a Girls name. Wasn't associated as a girls name until 20th century and now Ashley and Kelly are both more associate with girls than boys.

  • I'd only use it for a girl now, but I believe it was originally a name used for boys.

  • It was first used as boy name and is another sad example of a name taken over for girls. Just like Courtney, Shannon, Morgan, Taylor, Payton, Madison, Addison, etc. I used to know a guy named Ashley and it fit him perfectly. Nothing "girly" about him or his name.
