Epidural question

I had my son 4 months ago and had an epidural, my back still hurts where they put the epidural in. Is that normal?

  • They tried to do an epidural on my 2nd pregnancies but it was unsuccessful but ever since then I get pain where they try to put it in. It doesnt happen often but it still hurts from time t time and that was 18 months ago

  • No it isn't. Any pain at the epidural site should be gone by now.

  • i get a sharp pain from time to time in the place where i got my epi and my ds is one....i have arthritis in my back anyways but it seems like the epidural made it worse

  • Normal? it is one of the side effects of getting an epidural. Did the anesthesiologist not go over all the risks with you before they put it in?

    Spinal and epidural anesthesia are generally safe. Ask your doctor about these complications.

    * Severe headache
    * Drop in blood pressure
    * Nerve damage
    * Infection in your spine (meningitis or abscess)
    * Allergic reaction to the anesthesia used
    * Difficulty urinating
    * Bleeding around the spinal column (hematoma)
    * Seizures (this is rare)

  • One of my friends still has pain from it and it was done over 10 years ago....I don't think it's excruciating or anything, but I know that it still bothers her from time to time. Unfortunately, I don't think it's that abnormal although I didn't have any problems myself thank God...

  • I don't know about "normal" but it is a VERY common side effect.
