I used Santa

three year old saw 'her tree' get hauled off by truck
she was crying, i made up quick story to calm tears
i said santa takes all the trees back and keeps them until next year when we will get the same tree back again for next christmas

  • Nice! It is always great when you can think on your feet and come up with a good story for your kids. I am guessing she will remember it and retell that for her whole life. You should write it in her baby book or in a journal, to remember why to told her that.

  • That was some quick thinking there mama! I remember back on 9/11/01- my son lost a tooth that day. With all that happend on that day, I totally forgot to play tooth fairy. The next morning, he was upset when the tooth was still there & no $. So I just told him that no flying was allowed. That meant airplanes & the tooth fairy. The next night I put a typed note from the tooth fairy & $ under his pillow. He bought it! :) Always knew parenting required you to be quick on your feet- but they dont tell you that you have to be quick witted too! :)

  • thats new, my kids never cared about the tree, to them it was just a tree. Thats a goos call there, Mom :)
