Say what?

They really need to get a dictionary on teen talk or teach some teens how to talk properly. I was at the library today and there were teens there talking in slang. I barley understood half of what they said. I thought my time during a teen was bad but half the slag they have now I never heard before and I've only been out of high school for 4 years.

Do you understand your teens slang?

  • My kids are 15, 18, and 20. I do know the majority of what they're saying - even those things I sometimes wish I didn't know! LOL!

  • Dadburned kids these days! In my day, we spoke normal English as we walked 2 miles to school. Uphill! Both ways! ;) Seriously, I think they sound sort of ridiculous. But I suppose I sounded that way to my parents, too.

  • Honestly, I don't have any issues understanding my sons but then, they don't really keep us out of the loop and never have. I am a younger mom (43 with my sons being 19, 20, 23 and 24) and it's never been hard to keep up with what's being said.

  • I try my best to keep up- since I sub in a high school so much. If I'm not sure what something means, I just ask them. Usually they laugh at me but then they tell me. :) I guess they have an urban slang book, but it seems like it keeps changing so much,I think they'd have to be publishing a new book weekly. If you're not sure & dont want to ask, Google it!

  • It sure does change fast, but I do pretty well at keeping up. Every once in a while something gets by me though!
