  • Hell I played with them when I was a little girl. My son had them as well. I tried to be the PC mom and not let him play with them, but i'm really not a PC person and realized that I am a good parent and my brother and I had all sorts of toys, guns, swords etc... my brother also got a rifle when he was 11 and hey, we turned out just fine.

  • Kids that have never been given a toy gun will use something else like a weapon. It is a proven fact. My child did not have a toy gun until he was 4 or 5. And I agree with the first answer.

  • I don't not allow them but I don't go buy them. He has light sabers and DH wants to get him a nerf gun. I am pretty sure even with his 'mild' Autism he knows the difference between a real gun and a nerf gun. He is not allowed to 'shoot' at people or animals we have agreed on that rule.

  • The only things my kids have ever pretended to use as weapons were empty wrapping paper tubes.

  • Yes, It is a natural thing for boys. Before my son even knew what a gun was he would make shapes with his hands or use other toys and shoot things. I do not see a problem with it, like other posters have said its not guns that kill people its people. We have taught our son that real guns are NOT to be played with EVER, and if he see's one to never touch it and tell an adult.

  • No. Here's why. If kids want to play guns, or anything else, they will find a way. They will use sticks, spoons, trucks, whatever...There are lots of toys I don't buy because I wish to foster my children's imagination, letting them find ways to create whatever worlds they choose, rather than stuffing them into one thing. A gun is just a gun. A stick is a person, a spoon, a sword, and with its friends can become so many more things. Leaves can be boats, sails, dresses... You get my point.

  • I would, I have, and I do. He also has a BB gun that he shoots. Guns are fine as long as they are educated on the proper safety and raised that guns are lethal weapons. A childs ignorance and lack of education is what causes most accidents. If they are raised around them then they will less likely be curious of them.

  • my son loves nerf...lots of nerf guns swords battle axes ect...we have no problem letting him play with them as long as he is responsible....he cant shoot his sister or hit anyone that is 'unarmed' in a sword fight he has tons of fun play acting with those toys from being the knight defending his castle to shooting the 'orcs' that occasionaly invade our living room lol boys will be boys and as long as you teach them the difference between a toy and the real thing a little dart gun is no big deal in my opinion
