Bedtime?

There is a controversy going on in our house about the best bedtime for our tweens (10-12).

So, how old are your kids and when do you think they should go to bed on a school night?

  • My 9 and 10 year olds go to bed at 8:30, then read for 30 minutes. Lights out at 9. My 13 year old goes to bed at 8 by choice.

  • My 7 year old goes to bed between 8 & 8:30. I would say 9pm is a reasonable bedtime for your kids.

  • I think 9 is a good time, winding down for little bit with a story at 8-8:30

  • My 4,6 and 9 year old DD's are in bed by 9pm, my 11 year old usually is in bed by 10 sometimes 10:30, but they always seem well rested and ready to go the next morning so it works for us.

  • My son turns 14 tomorrow. On school nights, he is in bed with lights out at 9 p.m. - on weekends, he can stay up until 9:30 or on some occassions a little bit later.

  • It sounds like you all have basically the same ideas as we do. Right now mine are in bed by 9:30 but my sons who are in middle school and have to be up by 6am seem to be struggling especially the 11 yr. old...he is not a morning person, I have to go in and try to wake him at least 5 times every morning. I think he should be in bed by 8:30 but my son doesnt think its fair since everyone else will be later and of course my dh thinks it's too early also.
