Favorite Hymn?

Do you have a favorite hymn? One that brings tears to your eyes? Or a warm and tender feeling to your heart?

I love "In The Garden" and "The Lord's Shepherd" sung in German like my grandmother used to sing to me.

  • It Is Well W/ My Soul...it always gets me teary eyed. i think its b/c i know the story of the author and its just amazing that after all his tragedy he was able to say "its okay, my soul is at peace" and put it to song! it just reminds me that the trivial things in my life that im always worried about are so small in the grand scheme of things.

  • When I was really little I loved The Old Rugged Cross. I also like Amazing Grace. I'm sure I had other favorites, but it's been a while since I've heard any hymms.

One that would make me laugh and cry would be How Great Thou Art, because my grandpa had us play at his funeral a few years ago (his name was Arthur). So, it would probably make me teary eyed if I heard it now, but at the time it made me laugh and cry when they started playing it.

  • Great is Thy Faithfulness..the composition is beautiful, the words so lovely! its a great musical piece to sing, no matter which melodic or harmonic you sing, be it soprano, alto, tenor, or bass.

  • I Come to The Garden Alone.

I come to the garden alone

while the dew is still on the roses

And the voice I hear, falling on my ear,

    The Son of God discloses.

And He walks with me, and He talks with me,

And He tells me I am His own,

and the joy we share as we tarry there,

    None other has ever known.

He speaks, and the sound of His voice

Is so sweet the birds hush their singing,

And the melody that He gave to me

    Within my heart is ringing,

And He walks with me, and He talks with me,

And He tells me I am His own,

and the joy we share as we tarry there,

    None other has ever known.

I'd stay in the garden with Him

Though the night around me be falling,

    But He bids me go

  • GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS is probably my favorite. I want it sung at my funeral and I have written that down in my Bible.

  • I've never really liked the old tired sounding hymns but I do have to admit to being partial to Amazing Grace, especially the way it was done at the end of Silkwood
