Black and maroon poop

My son had a black/maroon oily bowel movement. He's 2.5. Can eating chocolate animal crackers cause that color? Can chocolate cause black stool? Or should I call his GI? (Thats the only colored food he's had)

  • Any blueberries lately? That messes with my daughter's stools.

  • black means blood
The only 2 things that I know of other than blood that cause black stool is Pepto Bismol and Oreos

  • no blueberries

And his animal crackers look and taste like oreos but no cream.

  • Is he taking an iron supplement? That can cause it to look black, too.

  • was it a lot of crackers? I'd bet it was food related. Watch the next poop and see what happens
