How do you know what kind of tires to get? Does price really matter? I have $300 to get 4 tires. Some are for $63 a tire all the way up to $150.00. What matters?

  • Read the reviews on them. My Hubby will only buy certain ones for our vehicles. Toyo's for our Jeep, and Nitto's for our Range Rover.

  • As with anything the cheaper the tire, the "cheaper" the tire. The more expensive ones are supposed to be more durable and last for more miles. But that doesn't mean the most inexpensive tires are dangerous or anything. It's got a lot to do with brand name too. Your Michelin and Goodyear tires are going to be more expensive the Cooper or Dunlop ones but they're not necessarily any better. With $300 you should be able to get 4 decent ones, but you'll have to shop around.

  • You get what you pay for when it comes to tires. Don't go the cheap route unless you plan to replace them again within a year.
