Is this behavior typical?

My cousin's son is 8 and a half months. He refuses to let anyone but his mom and grandma hold him. If someone tries to hold him,and he can't see who is holding him,he's fine. As soon as he sees your face,he screams bloody murder! He won't even let anyone get near him to play with him.If you get within a few feet,he freaks out.
Its been so long since my son was little, but i don't remember him acting this way at this age.

  • lol. My DD would scream every time DH tried to do anything with her. Poor Daddy. It could be a phase but it is def. something to keep an eye on. It shouldn't last.

  • My youngest is 17 months and is just now starting to let people near him.... he is very smart and has nothing wrong with him, he just did not like people at all until recently.

  • I would say yes it's normal. My son didn't want anything to do with my mom until he was a year and a half. He would scream bloody murder if she tried to hold him. He was a total mama's boy didn't want anyone to touch him but especially my mom.

  • I believe this to be age appropriate behavior! My DD didn't want anything to do with ppl she wasn't familiar with (holding, touching, even looking at etc.) until she was about 15 months old.

  • My son got to be that way and it lasted for a few months right around that age!!! IDK what it is, or why....but my son was super iffy about people! He still can be and hes 2, he doesnt cry or scream. He wasnt a big fan of men at all aside from his daddy (who has always lived with us, so he had a man around)....I would say its normal..just his personality maybe a phase for now!

  • he's been like this since birth. It makes it impossible to even think about getting a babysitter other than grandma!
