Why would an employer ask this question in an interview?

"What is the difference between a dog and a cat?" I've heard interviewers will sometimes ask weird questions but what is the point of a question like that? What kind of answer do they expect? Do they want the obvious answer?!

  • I would NOT have gotten that job lmao! I would have burst out laughing instantly and asked if the interviewer was serious. I've never been asked odd questions before in an interview.

  • My guess is they want to see how well you think on your feet.

  • Maybe they are just interested in how fast you can respond to a question and come up with a quick answer without having to think too long on coming up with a good response.

  • Probably to throw you off, see how you handle the unexpected. How well you talk and articulate.

  • i've never heard that one before...i can imagine them just doing it to mess with people...maybe they just want to see how easily the person can be distracted or to see a little bit of their personality...I think I would laugh if someone asked me that one.

  • To measure how quickly you can think, to judge how well you can formulate and verbalize your thoughts, to see your level of creativity, to get a feel for how you approach the world, to watch you handle the unexpected.
