Dog panting weeks after giving birth??? adult content

We have a min-pin and she had puppies (unplanned) two weeks ago. She did just fine through the birth and is a good mommy to the puppies. But every few days I will catch her panting still and every once in a while she has some bloody discharge. Now I know what is normal for humans but not for dogs. Any experianced breeders out there with some help? And yes we are getting her fixed ASAP!

  • I would take her to the vet. A puppy stuck isnt likely but she may have retained some placenta which can cause infection. If you dont have experience as a breeder you dont know what to watch for during the whelping.
A little bloody discharge is normal just like with a human, a foul smell is not. Also a dog panting is normal and she may be overheated from the warmth of the puppies.
Make sure she is staying hydrated also and eating well.
But I think a trip to the vet is the safest thing to do!

  • Take her to the vet, they can answer any and all questions and will be best in knowing if something were wrong or not.

  • Take her to a vet. There could be a puppy stuck.

  • Go to the vet as it sounds like a retained piece of placenta. It can kill her, with dogs when your gut tells you something is off or wrong it usually is so go to the vet to be safe
