I am a military mom and would like to know why is it that Naval Officers Spouses paint and anchor before their change of command?

The spouses before the new commanding officers spouse takes over, paint the anchor outside of the officers club. I was just curious as to what started this tradition.
Thanks a curious Military Mom

  • I have absolutely no clue...maybe as a way to symbolize them starting with a clean slate?
