We can't get rid of our fleas!

Please don't say to get flea collars, bug bombs, carpet spray or shampoo for fleas. We've tried them all! We have one dog and two cats. We treat them all at the same time with powder or shampoo, bombed the house and we vacuum every day! I'm going crazy trying to figure this out! We think our appartment was infested when we moved in so we're already one step behind as it is. Any Help Please!

  • We're having the same problem. We have decided to leave it up to the professionals. For our house, it will be between $210-$240. It might be cheaper for an apartment. It's worth the investment, and most places have a guarantee They will come back if it doesn't work

  • The stuff you have used already is it for eggs and larvae too??

You need to kill the eggs and larvae too because if you don't the life cycle just starts again and again....

  • Also in an apartment setting they may becoming from the neighbors apartment. If you're neighbors are not treating their "homes" too then it can become more problematic to get rid of them in your apartment.

My Mom sprays her apt for preventive measures (because of her neighbors) she also sprays the hallway between the apartments...she figures it will help by hopefully keeping a barrier.... So far she has had NO problems....

  • We had a bad flea problem a couple years ago and used Frontline. Within a matter of days there were no fleas on our pets. If the fleas don't have something to live on, they die. I would strongly suggest trying it. It's a once a month application. Call your vet.

  • i would go to your vet and spend the extra money on frontline, it works great within 24hrs usually no more fleas any fleas that jump on your pet will die and it lasts for a month and is waterproof. also i have heard if you sprinkle salt on your carpet let it sit then vaccum it up it will kill fleas.

  • Like a few other people have said, use frontline or advantage. All the stuff that you're able to buy at petstores or even at grocery stores doesn't work quiet as well. It's like having a migrane and taking OTC medication versus a prescription. Most things you can pick up at the store only kill the live fleas. The problem with that it there are eggs just waiting to be hatched and by the time they do, the product has worn off. Frontline and advantage last much longer. They'll kill living fleas within a few days and in two weeks there might be fleas again b/c of the eggs hatching, but the frontline or advantage will kill them off whenever they bite your pet. If you continue it monthly, even if your pet is exposed to fleas outside the home you won't have to worry about them bringing the fleas back in with them!

  • get rid of the animals.. lol it's about all I can think of. We had them pretty bad, we bombed the house and treated the yard and had the dogs flea dipped and put frontline on the dogs. All in the same day. we havent had a problem since... you really need to treat your yard and the animals..

  • Do I know how you feel. We have done it all and the things that work the best are these..Sweep 2-3x a day. Empty the bag every time..those devils can climb out of a sweeper bag! the laundry isle..put it everywhere..sofas..carpets, rugs all over the house. Leave it down for at least 24 hours. To keep the kids safe ..use lavender lotion. Fleas hate lavender, eucalyptus, clove, orange oil, lemon oil, and salt. We bath the dog in Dawn dish soap 1x a week. I put out pans of Dawn and water with a light over them at nite...the fleas are drawn to the light and jump into the water to...DIE!!!! You must be diligent...these buggers are relentless. good luck, hope ya kill em!!!

  • sprinkle BORAX on your carpets leave for about 3 hours to ill the fleas. you have to wash everything your blankets towels kids blankets toys ect.. to get rid of them. you can shake the borax out on the patio front porch ect.. you can buy it in the laundry detergent isle. repeat it in a couple days if you need to. Borax is known to kill fleas so please try it!

  • My dad owns a pest control company, and one of the major mistakes people make is when they vacumm they don't change the bag. The fleas can actually live in your sweeper bag, so you need to sweep your carpet and furniture that isn't leather, they have your house sprayed, then re-sweep everything. Then get rid of the bag, completely out of the house. Also sometimes it takes a couple of sprays to get rid of them. Make sure you are dr. your pet too. Hope this helps.
