Could I substitute tomato sauce for tomato paste?

I want to make home made spaghetti sauce but all the recipes I found require tomato paste. I only have tomato sauce and diced tomatos.

  • Many times, when a recipe calls for tomato paste, it also calls for adding water or another liquid. If you're using tomato sauce, you might want to reduce the amount of liquid you also add.

    Good luck :)

  • It'll be fine. Tomato paste just has more concentrated flavor and adds more body. I hardly ever use tomato paste whether a recipe calls for it or not. I prefer fresh tomatoes as often as possible.

  • Yep, whenever I do that I just make sure I don't add as much water or whatever other liquid it calls for, because the sauce is not as thick as the paste!
