which would you rather choose

If you were presented with a medical condition after child birth that would required medical treatment and a preventative medication to help the condition, but the medication would prevent you from breast feeding your child.

Would you refusethe medication and continue to have reoccuring health issues that require overnight medical treatment continuously so you can continue to breastfeed? Or would you take the preventative medication and bottle feed your baby?

  • Well I am not sure I really understand the options. When I my son was little the doctor wanted to put me on a systemic med. I said no treat it topically. That was my options. I did not want to take drugs that would go into my milk. I had some how contact allergy to something. I had a horrific rash all over my body. So I wouldn't give up nursing for anything.
I am glad I didn't and it did go away. But it was torturous.
It was not life threatening and not debilitating. I don't know if this helps or not.

  • Pump and dump until whatever it was was under control (such as high blood pressure). Bottle feed if we were talking long term.

  • The best thing for your baby is for you to be in good health. If I was you, I would bottefeed the baby and take the medication. That is my honest opinion, but in the end it is up to you. Good Luck!
