Unusual Compulsion... stress related?

Ok, I'm not OCD or anything but I do have certain compulsion, like a habit but I can't stop it even when I try. Some people pluck their eyebrows when they get stressed or just out of habit, other people have a certain spot on their head they pluck at.... I pluck pubic hair. I'm sure it stems from the same thing that drives these pther people to pull out their hair individually from their head or face or whatever but I have never heard of anyone who did it with their pubic hair. Its been going on for about 2 or 3 years now. Its not like I pluck it bald or anything but a few hairs every night. It hurts like hell sometimes but I can't help it....

  • I've done that (plucked pube hairs), but not compulsively. More like, "Well, I'm not going to shave or pluck, so it can't hurt to pull a few out! I've plucked hairs off my fingers, too. Mostly, though, I pick at pimples: back of arms, legs, face.... they're everywhere! I have a pretty decent complexion, but the backs of my arms have gotten kind of scarred. :( Sometimes I pick at split ends. Sometimes I've even picked at knee hairs, but I don't have a problem with that because it makes my knees smoother than shaving.

Wow, rereading this makes me feel like a real basket case! LOL! Really, I don't do it all the time!!!!

  • Could you shave/wax it so you wouldn't be able to do it?

  • If u do that even though it hurts ur probably using it as a coping mechanism. some people cut as a way to de-stress or they pluck their hair just like someone would bite their nails. i would ask a trained professional.

  • Thanks annonymous. I'm just glad I'm not alone. And I do go crazy on pimples too. I get them bad on my chest and it takes a LOT of control not to mess with them. i have a few scars from it. I have found myself playing at plucking the finger hairs before too and I HATE if I miss a hair on my knee when I shave. I'll get out my pocket knife and try to get it. Ok, we must be the very same type of worry warts. I used to bite my nails when I was younger but stopped when I was 18 and my brother who was 2 started trying to pick it up.
